Everyone as we start to look towards spring coming and we'll all be carving the skies more, some sooner than MN , let's ALL take a moment to refreshen and read up on our Safety Codes. http://www.horizonrcflyers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14

I have updated the AMA Safety Code to include the newest 2010 AMA Safety document. The Park Pilot PRogram has remained the same. In addition with ATIS's awesome introduction to FPV I have added the AMA First Person View (FPV) Operations. Let's read up, endorse it, practice it and be a fun, safe sponsor of the hobby we all enjoy and share! :happy bounce:

The AMA SAfety Code is freely useable by any one and is very good.
The AMA Safety Rules go beyond the FAA Guidelines, the FAA Model Aircraft Safety Guidance document is available HERE. (http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAdvisoryCircular.nsf/0/1acfc3f689769a56862569e70077c9cc/$FILE/ATTBJMAC/ac91-57.pdf)

Other model aircraft organizations use Safety Rules that are much closer to the FAA Guidelines. Example available HERE. (http://nationalflyers.110mb.com/rules.pdf)

None of these are law, they are all suggestions (good ones too). Currently there are no regulations at all for model aircraft, they are being considered by the FAA and Congress as of this date (4/21/2011).
However, If you are an AMA member, incidents resulting from violating the AMA Safety Code will not be covered by AMA insurance.

The most recent Policy Notice from the FAA (http://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Notice/N7210.766.pdf) (3/28/2011) states:
"Hobbyists should follow the guidance contained in Advisory Circular (AC) 91-57."

In other words, activities beyond the guidance of AC 91-57 is still not approved by the FAA.
