Hi, everyone!
Just found the site, looks great so far!
I've been flying sims since Realflight G2, and recently decided to take the plunge. Since November, I've been flying a MCX, MSR, and Ember2, and have yet to fly my PZ micro p51 and Apprentice (got the Apprentice yesterday). I have been spending a lot of time on Phoenix as I want to get a 450-size or larger heli soon. Got my first AMA card a few weeks ago, and am very much looking forward to some real stick time, along with advancing my skills and knowledge as an rc enthusiast. Now if we could only order up some warm weather as easily as we can order things from HorizonHobby....::cheerful::
Thanks very much to the administrators for creating a great site, and to everyone for participating. I very much look forward to learning from all of your shared experiences, and perhaps offer some of my own!
Happy Flying,
Mike

Hey Seeya happy to have you aboard HorizonRcFlyers. Was gonna say happy to SEEya, well I guess I just did!
Simulator time is a VERY very good investment upfront and then once you are more experienced a great tool to keep you sharp and to try new 'things' without the consequences.
I am VERY happy to see you joined AMA :clapping: I see an airfield in your near future. The Apprentice will treat you well and can be tweaked for greater performance at will as you grow and demand more.
Since you have not yet entered the world of faster fixed wings I would hold off on flying the micro P-51 in any area that is too tight and wait for a calm day or LARGE indoor area. The Apprentice, given the proper area, is a great first 4 channel in my opinion. I do like to see pilots make the step into the Apprentice after a good faster 3 channel such as the Super Cub, the Super Cub would be a terrific step up from the Vapor. Not that it is not doable it totally is just give yourself plenty of room when learning the Apprentice.
For S/G's I have family in Des Plaines....
Taker care Mike happy you found us. Now read up on the Apprentice area and I look forward to hearing how you are doing this spring. Also I am in MN and today flying was good but yes I'd rather have 60*F like ATIS in NC than 20's here.

Hey, Wayne, thanks for the welcome!
Yes, a friend and I (he with much more rc experience) will be joining a local club, and I will absolutely be looking for instruction before flying the Apprentice. I very much appreciate your suggestions regarding the micro P51; I'm going to wait until the weather gets better and likely maiden her in a medium-sized open field adjacent to my house. As you suggested, I'll certainly be giving her quite a bit of room the first few times she's in the air.
The reason I haven't gone down the three-channel planes (except for the Ember) was that I've been simming (and flight simming since MSFS1.0) for quite a while, and to me, ailerons should be on all rc planes :) I understand their function and effect, and to be honest, find the 4-channel planes easier to fly than planes without ailerons.
I'm reading up on the Apprentice forum as I'm typing this (...flaps, you say, eh?) and will certainly post to share my experiences as I go along.

Flaps is a mod ATIS and Tkrahlin have done, they did it primarily I believe to carry a bigger motor, video camea etc. The flaps allow for carrying a heavier load by accutely adding artificial lift to the wing so the plane can slow down for landing. Otherwise with heavier loads or nose heavy plane landing without flaps requires more airspeed.
Now the Apprentice has a huge wing with TONS of lift yielding a very low wing loading but still the Flaps have an effect as they have both detailed in their posts.
I have not yet flown any plane with flaps yet the Deuces Wild will be my first which if all goes to plan will be this upcoming weekend.
Beautiful glad to see you reading up, have your friend join too then we can all share experiences, learn, grow and enjoy ourselves that much more at the airfield.

Mike, glad you enjoy the site. You will enjoy the apprentice, as she is a nice flying plane. Sounds like the RC bug bit ya pretty good :)
The Apprentice has really good short field qualities

Wayne--
Best of luck with the maiden for Deuces Wild!! There's one in Phoenix I've been flying quite a bit, seems to fly really nicely. What do you have for powerplants? Are you running the recommended (what are they, power25s?) or something else?
Very cool, I'm a bit jealous; I'd love to be able to fly a nice twin like that someday!
I've read that the Apprentice wing seems to have plenty of lift; probably will keep mine stock for a while, just looking for something to use up some of these extra channels on the tx :)

Travis--
Thanks very much for the welcome and the pic! What an awesome takeoff! I'm assuming that might not be stock??
And yes, the bug got me pretty bad. I've known I've wanted to do this for quite a while, so the money has begun draining...... :)

Sweeet!!!! Can't wait to fly it :)
Just looking at your intro; seems we might have a couple of things in common-like our appreciation of the Flying Fort; my dad flew as tail gunner and photographer for the 15th out of Foggia, Italy. I got to fly left-seat in Aluminum Overcast on one of their Heritage Flights--it was awesome! What an incredible plane. I've got to get some of those pics digitized....The time you got to spend with the original crew must have been awesome! I'm jealous :)

Awesome, Wayne! 32s! That should scoot pretty well, I think. That's exactly how I want to set up mine when I get one :)
What batts are you running?
Please keep us all posted on how the maiden goes, I'll be waiting at my computer to hear.... :happy bounce:

ATIS and I were figuring out the batteries earlier. I may maiden with two 2150mAH 4S 20C Rhinos tied in parallel in each Nacelle than get into maybe up to a 5000mAh 4S 25C when I figure out which one to buy. Choices choices.

Batteries tend to get a bit expensive when you get up in that arena from what I've come to understand....
Again, best of luck! Keep us posted. I'll certainly be eager to hear how it goes.
