I want to add a Avatar, but when I go to UserCP and select "edit avatar" the Avatar window comes up but I can't get it to do anything??

If you resize it to be 100px wide, you'll be able to upload it.

do you have to have a certain number of posts for the avatar to show up?

Nope, just need to make it 100pixels wide....
