So who's going to SEFF 2010? I will be arriving on Apr 19th and returning Apr 26th. Dragging the trailor, my neighbor (DCobra) and 15 planes down there for another fun filled week! :happy bounce:

But its not just any fun fly... its 500 pilots with different flying areas depending on what you are flying...plus it starts on Thursday and ends Sat night (but some of us arrive early and fly sunday morning as well). They have a poker night and a BBQ and beer night along with night flying!!

I will arrive Monday around 3pm and not leave till Sunday around noon...last year I didnt want to leave.

This event sounds so awesome ATIS, I am trying hard here but with the latest Action Work Out scheduling at GE it it highly unlikely I will be able to attend. I am weighing all I can to see if I can do it but the outcome of the AWO depends highly upon the preparation and due to the WO dates being the week after SEFF I need to be on site for the preparation the week of SEFF.

As a slogan you are likely familiar with, Failure Is NOT An Option at this event. Well it is an option but not one that would be looked upon kindly by my peers or an option I would endorse :opto:

I know, was just up on the RCG looking at it. Man, just cannot justify driving 13+ hours one way. Wife would kill me. Not with the price of fuel going up again. Lucky that S.M.A.L.L. is coming up in June here at the Rock. (30 minutes away) Usually a very good turn out for (this year 4 days) event. All my electrics can fly in it. If the weather is good, usually 100-125+ pilots are registered. I'll have to take Thursday and Friday off!!

2 WEEKS till SEFF!!

Bassfisher, I drive 12 hours each way. I dropped $4000 on a trailer last year just for SEFF... I only use it to drag planes and gear to SEFF each year. I got married April 10th last year, skipped the honeymoon and went to SEFF with the guys instead! Yep, my wife is a keeper.

I'd love to go as well, sounds like the ultimate guy get-a-way! But the distance makes it too cost prohibitive from Illinois. I have an 11 yr old and 13 yr old with college bills in the not too distant future.

Please take some good video to share with us guys at home !

I did SEFF with a couple of buddies last year. Drove from Chicago to Muncie IN with Bud#1, picked up Bud#2 (and his trailer) and drove to Americus from Muncie straight through. I would break that up with a motel stay if I were to do it again. Americus GA is in the A$$ end of no where and the last (seemingly) 100 miles were on back roads ... rather interesting people out there at 3 AM :

I was a bit disappointed with the event. It seemed (as so many events have become) to be all about how many people there were (over 500 registered) and not so much about the flying. It didn't help that the two flight lines we were interested in were on opposite ends of the field (Sport and Heli's). The park fliers and 3D flight lines were in the middle. The treeline near the helicopter area was pretty tight so we (unofficially) restricted the flying to one 3D or two non-3D heli's at a time to reduce the risks. The Sport flight line seemed to be restricted to a left hand racetrack pattern ... it was just like a busy day in the pattern at a GA airport. I actually was warned when I did a loop because part of my loop was "against the flow of traffic" ... rolls were OK, though.

The Noon demo flying was spectacular, and the guy who did a rolling circle with his giant scale IMAC bird into the far tree line was AWESOME ::yell:: It just exploded when it hit the trees and he just stood there saying "I never saw those trees in front of me".

The speed freaks put on a great show, as each guy up pushed the limits a little faster than the last ... there were some F5D pylon racers and F5B "gliders" that really smoked around the course. :clapping: Of course, a few smoked ESCs are always a good show.

I wish I had gone a few years ago when there were fewer pilots, around 200 or so rather than the 500+ last year. I'm glad I attended one SEFF, it's now crossed off my bucket list, but I likely won't go back again.

Sport and park are left turn race track...I did a bunch of loops but I would go high and drop in behind the other planes. I did get yelled at last year for "violating" the 3D airspace with my Corsair as my buddy chased me around with my T-28 (he was in a KE the entire flight). Hey, I did what I had to to get away...not thinking that both planes were mine and if hit anyone's plane in 3D I would be out 2 planes.

You gotta go early, fly your butt off up till saturday, get a few flights in on saturday and then fly again sunday morning while everyone else is packing...that way the roads are clear when you leave! :)

If anyone makes it there I have a black trailer with Calvin running from a plane on the side of it above the wheel well.
