My student Gary and I have been flying together now for a few weeks. Gary had zero experience with R/C Aircraft and approached one day as I was flying in a vacant area in our neighborhood.
Gary to date has an accumulated ~ 4 1/2 hours on the buddy-box and is doing very well. After 3 hours of training Gary performed his first takeoff then at 3 1/2 hours performed his first landings. Today Gary had his first solo flights. I was not at the airfield during his first couple solos but did get to witness his third which unfortunately ended in a minor cartwheel with just a bit of foam ripping off the wing's outter edge. It was hard to not jump in but I know Gary is trying to make the leap to full solo flying, he is learning rapidly. We returned to the Buddy-Box Training system and Gary added some large Loops with some inverted time in to his experiences. Wind was kicking up momentarily cross from the tarmac and he was uncomfortable to land so we left it at just Gary taking off.
Attached are a couple pictures from today's training.
