My IE 8 has been really slow so I started looking around to see what others are out there. I've tried firefox and opera, but was just looking for something different. I found out Google makes one called Google Chrome. The best thing I've seen so far, it has a spell check similar to a Mac. It underlines the misspelled word with read and then you can right click on it and choose the correction. It's much faster. Downside, which was minor, it doesn't have a home button, although you can make one relatively easy.

I've also heard Google is going to come out with their own operating system to compete with Microsoft. If it's anything like the browser so far, I'm hooked.

I will be happy to rid myself of microsoft products too. As soon as alternatives like the google OS go mainstream I will deffinately give them a try. I have used opera in the past when IE7 would stop working for no apparent reason.

Looks like google OS is going to be a Linux based OS. I'm not so sure about that for people who have programs. For people who do almost nothing and just use it for the internet, it'll be great.

Kind of, well actually a total, PITA but I have noted if I reload the operating system every 6 months the performance seems to keep up there.

I'm utterly happy with Firefox. I have all the features of Chrome and a hundred more in a very fast browser. It's much more secure than Chrome because Chrome is lacking plugins that give Firefox its versatility.

With NoScript I keep any script from running unless I give a site the OK. AdBlock Plus keeps the advertising at bay in a similar whitelist way. Ads are automatically blocked unless I let them display. Built-in FTP, site modifying Greasemonkey, integrated 800x600 pop-up weather radar, spell check plus reference tools in Hyperwords, detection of site-based spying scripts and the ability to disarm them with Ghostery, the ability to run IE safely in a captive tab within Firefox when I need to, automatic downloading of any videos hosted on a site: all these things I would lose if I went to Chrome. It looks promising but right now it's a hollow promise. Firefox is the real McCoy.

The great thing is that they are both open source and in coopetition, helping each other to be better. Once Google Chrome gets up to speed we'll have two first-rate free browsers that just blow the doors of Internet Exploder.

If you REALLY want to see what web browsing is all about use Firefox in Ubuntu Linux!

Another good one with spell check, I like the Top sites button, is Safari for PC. It works just like the one on the Mac. I think this will be my favorite for awhile.

Found the solution for IE8.

Go to Tools> Compatibility Settings

Change it to "Display all websites in Compatibility View"

It only helped a little. I'm still using Safari.

It doesn't work with Firefox.

Both Safari and Google Chrome have active spell check.
