You can load your pics regardless of size to something like Photobucket and post the image link within your post and the photo will automatically load from photobucket when your post is viewed.

So in essence just like the old Apprentice Flyers Forum.

You can also create smaller pics by using a free program like GIMP. Use "save as", save it as a .jpg file. When you save it you can save the copy using a lower quality setting. This will make the file smaller.

The only caution with using .jpg files is they are a little like VHS tape copies. Every time you open and save a jpeg file you lose some image quality. So if your master picture is a jpg *never* edit and save it to the original file name.

This evening I will write a detailed step by step to help you acclimate yourself to this process. Actually quite simple indeed, it sounds intimidating but it is not at all.

So for pictures larger than the 125K that you do not want to reduce in size due to quality loss issues I just load mine to Photobucket. Photobucket is a photo sharing/hosting website that is free and fairly easy to use.

1) Go to Photobucket and create an account.
2) Click on the button marked CHOOSE Files within the UPLOAD IMAGES & VIDEO box.
3) Choose photo/video from your computer's files, click upload.
4) After image/video uploaded click done
5) Now after the image/video shows up on your Photobucket front page put your cursor onto the image/video, a series of options will pop up below the image/video. These options should read E-mail/IM, Direct Link, HTML Code, IMG Code. IMG Code is the one you want, left click the code to highlight it, right click and copy it. Then paste this into your post so the picture pops up where you feel it is relevant in your post. When someone reads your post it will automatically load your image from Photobucket onto the current page being read.

To try this out go ahead and follow the above instructions then write your post and insert IMG Code then click preview on the posting options. This will show you what the post will look like. It may take a moment for the photo to upload to here but the delay if any is insignificant.

This should help get you into the ball park for at least this option.

To reduce my photo's sizes I use HP PhotoSmart Premier. It's not a state of the art rendering program but it works sufficiently for basic photo cropping, chopping, repairing, making fish look bigger, and resizing photos for e-mail etc. This program came preloaded on my computer so it's been free.

PhotoBucket is free, but you can upgrade to a Pro Account for $39.95. It's a really good deal.

Among other features, you get more online storage and un-metered bandwidth traffic.
Clicky-Click Here: http://photobucket.com/upgrade

10-gigs is a lot of online storage and it's so easy to upload then link to them.

It has an online editor, so you can (among other things) resize your photos right from your PhotoBucket page.

You can make your albums (folders) public or private and get to them from literally anywhere in the world. Most of mine are public: http://s196.photobucket.com/albums/aa62/tkrahlin/

No, I don't work for them or own PhotoBucket stock :D

Hobby Lobby carries/carried them... the red one was brushed and was discontinued. The blue one is brushless and was actually faster then the red one after it was upgraded to twin EFlite 480's!! If you get one, PM me so I can tell you what mods to do before you fly.

Holy Cow ATIS! That looks more like a hobby shop LOL. We need more reviews!

I am thinking of getting the T28D as the second plane to my Apprentice. I have logged over 6 hours of stick time on the Apprentice. It goes quickly at 10 or 15 minutes a flight.

I notice you have the PT-19. What level of flying experience is required for that? I have always loved that plane. Probably because I started flying control line with the Cox PT-19 with the .049 engine back in the 70s. I am leery to start flying balsa planes because the foamies look so much easier to repair.

darn it.. it figures someone would spot her... I am working on the PT-19 review right now. No maiden yet as the weather has been 14-25 mph winds and rain. I hope to have the review complete by sunday night as I am only missing the flight report and in flight photos. I have alrady typed everything else up and included the build photos (sorry but the review is currently locked so only admin can see it...my spell check doesnt work so Travis spell checks it for me....plus Wayne and him can look it over and make sure it makes sense and that I didnt forget anything that might be helpful)

The trojan will serve you well. I enjoy mine and probably have close to 50 hours on her.

I can hardly wait for a Stearman PT 17 review as well. But that one won't be available until end of August from the looks of it.

For the PT 19, hopefully you will let us know how it fares in the wind compared to the foamies like the Apprentice or the T28?

Reviewing products is something anyone with at least intermediate experience, you would qualify just fine. ATIS, I, Travis and I think Pinchflat maye have done a review, we all purchase the aircraft, assemble or build, critique, maiden, docyment and publish.

ATIS has a good template my Review of the upcoming Habu and then the Deuces this winter will be using his template, he won't mind if we steal it.

So if you are building a kit or assembling a new plane with your experience it'll be a snap to do and informative to someone else. So fire-away, let us take a look and get you reviewing.

Just as wayne said, we are just looking for intermidiate or advance pilots that want to review a plane. The only requirements are that you purchase the plane and gear yourself, use the recommended gear (or if they recommend a "power set up" like the PT-19 where the 450 is the stock motor but the 480 is recommended for more power) and you right the review from a "beginner's" stand point. The experienced guys can and will tweak a plane thats bad to make it fly correctly but beginners lack the expierence/confidence to do that so I try to write the reviews from their stand point... does she fly well out of the box built the way the instructions say. Any deviations from the instructions need to be noted in the review (like the RV-9 review when I went to larger wheels right away since I fly off of grass) so there is no confusion.

There are 3 templetes... the PZ P-51, PZ micro P-51, and the PT-19 or PT-17 since they cover the three types of kits most HH planes come in... no building at all; ataching wings and tails, and attaching everything and installing all radion gear.

Just PM one of us to let us know what you want to review. In flight photos and video are a must as we feel its important to show an unbiased video and stills from an everyday flyer...plus if you crash, video is great for reviewing what went wrong.

Thanks guys for the reply. I'll keep this in mind when I get my next new plane (the PT-19 is out). But there are always a new one on the horizon (ouch!) Hopefully a few more warbirds.

Now I'll have to pitch to my better half that we really need to buy that new video camera (maybe a few hints before our next vacation)

Kirch - I noticed that you said you are leery of balsa planes because foamies look so much easier to repair. I tend to take a different path, I think that balsa is very easy to repair. A little CA or epoxy, a sharp knife, and a little skill and your ready to go. I'm not really good with foam repairs. I've made repairs with expoy with a couple of foamies, but then I start looking at adding more weight. Plus, with balsa, I can go to the LHS or Michaels or Hobby Lobby to get more - don't know if I can do this with the various types of foam. Currently I'm flying an Eagle made from Depron, so I can't say that I don't have any foamies- all repairs have been made with epoxy or canopy glue.

I know this debate has been going on for a few years now, but don't be afraid of balsa - its been the airplane builders choice for over 80 years!

WJCJR1

Be careful with the Depron it is not as forgiving, as maybe you already know.

None of my foamies are very small so when I need repairs to foam I use Gorilla Glue White if it's a low tensile strength area and 5 minute epoxy if it needs to be strong.

Epoxy is way heavier than Gorilla and CA is lighter than Gorilla. Many people have great luck with CA glue I on the other hand have NEVER had repeatable success with CA:duh: Followed directions for normal use. I have never tried adding the 'kicker' and maybe that's a potentail reason my CA repairs are weak and fail when inspected.

This winter I have plans to build (assemble) a Deuces Wild. This will be my first balsa plane. I have not much wood experience and NO wood model experience. Sounds easy though if you can get the stuff to stick together which I will obviously learn.

Balsa is very easy to work with. The Deuces Wild is pretty much a total ARF, so it should not be that hard to put together (from the reviews that I've seen). After building for so many years, these are the glues the I recommend - Thin CA, Med CA, 5 Min epoxy & 60 min epoxy,(I like the Devcon twin syringe expoy), carpenters glue, CA kicker -use only on the Med CA, not the thin. As for Gorilla Glue, I've never used it on a balsa bird, just the stuff I've mentioned above.

The nice thing also about a balsa bird, after building and repairing for so many years, I've learned where to put additonal support for very little weight that the designers don't put in.

Everyone listen to this man about the Devcon twin syringe Epoxy. There are other twin syringe epoxies about $1 cheaper and I have bit that hook two too many times. Each time the products just ooozed all over in storage and when using starts and stops when dispensing were not very predictable.

There likely are other good twin syrnge epoxy products out there but the Devcon has been my only good experience.

For what it's worth,
Wayne

I was given the Long EZ from a friend that decided he didnt want it so I dont know. I do know that I reported a company to EBay for using my videos of it without consent...and called and ripped them a new one for using my video on their website. (all are violations of YouTube policy as I havent given up my rights for commerical ventures so as such the videos are considered "stolen property")

You can find them from Hobbycity.com... its foam and 38" WS, runs on a 380... that one is running on a EFLite 400 outrunner if I remember.

Depron is easy to work with!! MY F-18 and my F4D Skyray are both 6mm depron. Its was easier to work with then balsa. I staright edge and a new #11 xacto blade and some 6 minute Epoxy and your flying through the build (and a box of "T" push pins)

Liquid... I use the adjustable shelve brackets and pipe insutlation for mine...you can adjust the spacing to fit the max number of planes in the smallest space and as you destroy or sell planes and get new one's you can adjust them to fit the new planes.
