Our Airfield has been invited to another Airfield's grounds this weekend. We have accepted and will fly at Wright Fliers in Monticello, MN this weekend. Wright stands for Wright County BTW.
We have reciprocated and will be hosting the Wright Fliers mid-September. We will be offering a, VERY AFFORDABLE, BBQ lunch to all guests.
This is what it's all about gentlemen and ladies, meeting great people who are also enjoying the world of flight. Without doubt we'll have a bank of knowledge to share and I look forward to learning all I can as well, it is inevitable whne meeting new people in a hobby as this you WILL see new stuff. Such as my T-28D with a Power15:cool:, had to drop that in.
I encourage all fliers to invite your neighboring clubs, airfields, group of guys flying at the park over to fly at 'your' terf and likely you'll end up at theirs'.

This is cool, Wayne. I didn't know about it, can anyone come? Is it limited to a certain type of aircraft?
Lucky dogs... the closest we get is when the LHS points newbies to the park on Sundays for help!! LOL.
We expect a nice write up with photos and videos in the general forum!! You cant have a fun fly and not share cool photos and stories with us as thats the second fastest way to get banned...the first being a spammer!!:roflmao:

It was discussed at our last meeting, you were there if I remember correctly. We voted on the naming of the field and stuff.
It is Saturday the 29th, here's a link to Wright Flyer's Fun Fly agenda. http://dirnberger.us/wfrcBB/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=144&sid=d4ce1174b3d99d84a44e0cd7dd167256#p561
Ever been to their field, looks a bit small.
No Tarmac... I guess we'll have to make do.

Yeah, I was there I guess I just didn't remember that they invited us to their event.
Not sure if I will be there - Daughter's first b-day.

Cool 1st B-Day I remember my son's 1st, seems like yesterday. Before you know it she'll be 10.
FYI in case something changes the Fun-Fly starts at 11:00, Dean was planning to show at 1:00. Not sure what time they all get going there, not sure how exboobiated they get. You know me I was brushing the snow off the tarmac in February.
Weather looks a bit poopy with showers predicted, wind mid teens and 60*F high.
I will show either way. Rain day set for I believe September 19. Musky really start going by then so not sure if I will make it then if she's delayed, gotta get some boat time.

Our visit to our neighboring airfield was a bit of a bummer. Whome showed up had a great time with great people and great hospitality and ALL the food you could eat or take home with you.
Unfortunately mother nature is not harnessable and the wind machine was chugging and with the contour of the field it was a rather difficult day that most decided to opt-out on.
I felt kind of obligated to fly as we were guests and I found it rude of me not to fly. We got there about 11:00 and not much was going on due to the high winds of upper teens and gusts to mid to upper 20's and occasional higher short bursts. To complicate things about 450' out there was a large stand of mature pines that were causing a swirling effect with the wind rolling over the tops of the trees and falling on the field.
I sent out the 4S Power15 enhanced T-28D, all went well until I got a bit gutsy. I dived in from a vertical run to about 350' I came down in front of the pits in a descending inverted run, started to roll to revert plane and when I got the wings perpandicular to the wind the wind blew the plane towards the pits and I was TOASTING I banked the plane away from the pits and as soon as I rolled the plane flat now pointing into the wind I being easy on the sticks at such a high speed did not judge the amount of force the wind was applying on my nose down attitude and I allowed the wind to bury the plane into the ground.
This was my first time in 3 years burying a plane, I did not feel good about it at all. More disappointed and embarassed as we were guests and here I was destroying stuff right in front of them. See the photo in the crashes area, not pretty, it's detailed more there.
Nonetheless the rest of our day at the field was strewn with planes going down. After I buried the T-28D I was asked if I was done flying due to the wind I said heck no and flew the Apprentice. I think the hosting field then felt obligated to fly since I and another from my club showed up and were taking it to the wind regardless of the challenge, anyway more people started flying and more planes were lost. I have never seen 5 planes WRECKED in one day but that is exactly what happened. The Hobbico Twinstar featured in the Other Planes area video section is in many pieces and 3 other planes ended up destroyed from the hosting field's fliers, some real nice planes too unfortunately.
The food and hospitality were Great and I even won a door prize of some zap glue. I had origianlly won a gallon of fuel but since I fly electrics I asked to swap for a glue jug and of course no one complained and the fuel went to some glow fliers. The comradeship displayed by all was memorable and we look forward to hosting the Wright Fliers at our Airfield Sept. 12th.
There was a splattering of experience levels with pilots with less than 10 flights to advanced pilots braving their very nice planes, some needing some repair now, and others as myself an intermediate pilot knocking on the door of more performance and performing planes.
All in all a good day, I have all my parts for my rebuild and will begin as soon as I get the photos loaded from today.

We are reciprocating the above invite to our neighbor's airfield tomorrow. We have invited the Wright Flyers to come out to our Airfield for the day.
I am not planning on repeating the embarassing, painful wreck I had a few weeks back at their place. I am however planning on ripping the wings off the T-28D, figuratively... I am expecting 50+ aircraft on site, should be a blast.
The weather besides a 30% chance of showers looks great, mid 70's light winds under 10 mph ALL DAY... So my son and I are planning of flying flying flying and my wife is running the grill as we are having a lunch for everyone as well.
Should be fun, I will try to not be lazy and take some pictures or video, I am horrible at taking the time to do it. I at least need to get a picture of the cook busy doing her thing.
Jason D you coming right?

The Fun-Fly today was a outright blast. Weather was darn near perfect for everyone.
We had roughly 60 people on site maybe even more, there were no less than 35 planes sitting in the pits at one time with many more planes in trucks, truck toppers and cars so planes were coming and going.
Several times 4 planes were in the air at once and there were few times from 11:00-5:00 where there was not a plane in the air.
The couple guys who brought helicopters did not have time to get to them.
I did not repeat my T-28D destruction show :clapping: instead I tore a hole in the sky.
My son had several successful flights with his Super Cub.
There was not a single plane wrecked today, everyone was on their toes and besides a couple planes that hit the soy bean field after running long on landings it was uneventful.
A couple guys were flying scale models to include a real nice T-34 and a gorgeous P-51. We have a 360' runway and with these models tipping the scale somewhere in the mid-teens they used every bit of it when landing.
At the end of the day, when most had split, a gentleman stopped in with his homemade 96" wingspan camera plane. He shot about 6 minutes of awesome video and snapped a bunch of pictures. I will post the pictures, they are 12MB pictures! so I need to dumb them down a bit to get them tranferred to here. The video is of the same phenomenal quality so again I need to reduce it's size before getting it up here. Funny side note here there are two missing planes from a few weeks ago somewhere in the swampgrounds to our west, with this video we are going to comb it to see if perhaps we can find the planes. Two guys went down in consecutive days in the same area and were unable to locate them in the 5' tall swamp grass, so we'll see.
OK all a GREAT day, I'll have photos up soon.

I have a few pictures here from today, par for the course, I did not take enough pictures AGAIN. But here's a sampling of the day;
The camera plane was unexpected and came to the airfield after most people had left so the tents were down and people mostly gone so judge not our turn-out today on this almost evening photo. Nonetheless our airfield consists of the 360'X30' tarmac runway and then the whole field we have until the white farm house and then also the woods to the left of the field. Plenty of area!!!
Another photo of the field.
My wife taking a break after teaming with the field president to feed 60 plus people. There was no shortage of food and the prep work, cooking and delivery thereof was superb, thanks Nate and Debra!
Couple photos of the pits area, there were 35 various planes lined up with others in vehicles. Nobody getting bored today, spectators and other pilots as well were looking at different planes all day.
That's a sampling; more AWESOME pictures to come from a friend of one of the flying members, this lady was great she was a wildlife photographer and captured 90 minutes of video and what must be hundreds of photos. I hope to get these specimens soon and will share.

CRAP! I certainly missed a great event because of work! I am glad I at least got to stop out and say hi before everyone had packed up.
I hope we can do this again, maybe a couple times next year. It sure looked like a blast and the weather was perfect.
Glad you guys had fun.

Jason just your presence when you stopped out was nice, we enjoy your company as much as your flying and tutoring.
It was a grand day, we were thinking 50 people would show as we had 43 confirmed but definitely more than that showed up and I wonder if my estimate of 60 may be indeed short.
We did a 50/50 drawing, 50% to the lucky winner and 50% to the club. It ended up being a $81.00/$81.00 pot. A non-flying invited guests of Al's won the prize, real nice guy, I'm going to get a few of these guys into flying after all. They enjoy the watching, but I keep tempting them with a buddy-box lesson and each time we talk they think about it longer before declining. Next time I going to bring his lawn chair out to the flight line, get the Apprentice 250' up and lay the buddy box in his lap so he can fly with all the comforts. My son actually did this with his Super Cub for about 30 minutes last time we were out. Those 2200mAH Tenergy batteris last a long time with that Park450.
I tell you everyone this is what it is all about, the flying is great I love it you all know that, but sharing the hobby with others who are flyers or not is so much more. I put a 12X6 prop onto a Dad and son's Apprentice they loved it's extra vertical, introduced a few gasser skeptics to the world of clean maintenance free electric flight by blasting by at ~80+mph with the super 28D, then introduced these same skeptics to a solid 30 minute flight with the Apprentice, helped a tandem group learn how to use their buddy-box system and started what I hope is a rewarding path of R/C flight to several non-flying or long time ago flying airplane enthusiasts. This was, besides my son's maiden solo flight earlier this year, my most rewarding day at the airfield in 2009.
