My hangar consists of 2 hangars. I graduated college 1.5 years ago and don't have the space for my slimers.

Hangar #1:

Great Planes .60 Extra 300S kit (built while I was in high school)
Sirex Wasp (fun fly profile my dad found plans online while I was in high school)


Hangar #2:

E-Flite Blade CP (the original Blade CP)
Parkzone Sukhoi



I received a free AR6110 with the purchase of my D6xi (a promo event at a local field) so I'm searching for a nice park flyer warbird to add to hangar #2.

I know everyone has one but the T-28 Trojan or for something that is exactly the same but looks different due to the scheme the T-28D. Great flying planes and come in at the top limit of the Park Flyer Program set out by AMA. Check out the T-28D review I did, again very nice flying plane and very open window to fly in various conditions.

Then for something a bit classier ATIS has reviewed recently the PT-20, RV-9 and the new P-51. Coming soon the Messerschidt, I must have spelt that wrong.

Everyone's posting pics of their hangars, so I thought I'd upload a couple pics of mine. It's grown by 2 BNFs and 2 ARFs (not assembled yet) and support gear since the previous post.

Yeap. All stock and original (minus a main shaft that was replaced and the canopy being a second canopy). Whenever I take it out to the field, others are always impressed to see how well I control what is known to be one of the twitchiest and hardest to control original electric micro heli.

The Great Planes Extra 300L lives! The Saito .91 fired up on the first try yesterday. Tached it at 10,000 RPMs and could tell by the sound it was a little off on the high end. If my memory serves me correctly, I should be spinning closer to 12,000 RPMs. A 4 stroke is turned via a tachometer by finding the max RPMs and backing it off by about 200 RPMs.

Details of the plane:

Built in 2002 when I was in the 10th and 11th grades. Received the kit as a Christmas present in 2001.
Saito .91 four stroke spinning a 13x8 APC prop
Futaba electronics (standard Futaba servos on everything except elevator, Hitec servo here)
72 MHz Futaba RX on channel 17
Each aileron has its own servo that connected to the RX via a y-cable

Nice Extra. Theyre nice flying airplanes. I did the maiden on one for a friend years ago. I think youll like it a lot with the 91 on it but Im not too sure about that 13x8 thou.
Most planes like yours that Ive flown over the years dont like to land with props that are pitched that high. Depending on the wing loading and even with the idle set as low as possible, sometimes the high pitch makes the plane into a floater and it can be difficult to get down without killing the engine.
A H9 Aresti I had and my 5 year old Edge was like that even with a 6 pitch prop. Just couldnt get the plane to settle. After two flights I upped the prop diameter and lowered the pitch on the Edge. That simple change made a world of difference. Didnt have the option of swapping the prop on the Aresti due to prop/ ground clearance and ended up using a spoiler mix on the ailerons to kill some of the lift. After those changes I could spot land those planes no prob. lol
Also you may want to check on the 91s RPM limit. 12k seems high to me. I have a couple smaller 4 strokes(70 size) that I can run to 12K but my 91 is propped to less than 11K with a 14x6. I forget what it actually is thou.

Thanks phantom. This plane is tried and true. It's all known characteristics. She's a floater and it lands beautifully. It may be a 13x6 APC prop. I know we tried both of them back in the day. Can't remember which one the plane flew better with and we stuck with. This is not setup as a 3D plane. Not enough power and throws, it's a good Sport Scale aerobatic plane, and that's fine with me. I like the way it flies, couldn't ask for a better handling plane.


So the background on my Great Planes Extra 300L:

I received the kit as a Christmas present in 2001. After Christmas, I had my toughest semester of 10th grade (was in the honors program). So not a lot of building happened during school. The kit has the option of putting dihedral in the wing, as you can probably see, Dad encouraged me to put the dihedral in. Great idea at the time, but it hurts the knife edge performance of the plane. The color scheme is original, designed and applied by me. I cut the lightning bolts out by hand, created a cardboard template in order to try to achieve symmetry. I wanted something that was different from all the ARFs and Patty Wagstaff's CS that were popular at the time. The plane is covered in a base of white Monokote with the lightning bolts put on top of the white. The bottom of the wings have two large rectangular strips of pink monokote (see the tips and tricks section on RCRN for the picture http://www.rcradionetwork.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=84&title=color-schemes). This choice of CS makes the plane easy to see and helps with the orientation. I flew the plane a lot before going off to college in the fall of 2003. During the first 2 years of college I would come home and fly a little during the breaks. But the last 3 years of college I didn't fly much as my schedule changed. For 2 years post college I was living in a single bedroom apartment that didn't have room for my glow planes. Finally, 1 year after getting married and buying a house I have the space for the planes. So it wasn't by choice the plane hasn't been flown in 6 years. This plane will slow down nicely for landings, I'm known to grease it in every time in the past. Everyone at the field would make the same comments ya'll have made about how well it looks.

Phantom, I didn't mean any harshness towards you in my response. I'm not sure if that is conveyed or not, so I wanted to clarify I don't mean negativity towards you. Thanks for the tips.

Cool. I understand now. I thought the Extra was an old project that had been put on the back burner and not finished/flown till now.

Just sharing here - Even though my Edge has whats considered a 3D prop (14x4), its set up for practicing IMAC. In this case, I felt that the lower pitch gave better speed control through many of the maneuvers. Especially the down lines where the prop actually gives a braking effect. My Edge wont fly 3D either, nor is it a speed demon. She just likes smooth aerobatics.
I guess my point is that I understand what you mean about the Extra and especially about not wanting one that looks like everyone elses.
