Wow this statement couldn't be more true. There's plenty of room for unplanned ditches.

Put place isn'ty quite as open, we have a bit too many trees covering our airfield that run parallal to our Tarmac. These trees are relatively close to the strip and if the wind is blowing more than 10mph and coming over those trees on top of the runway it can rolls of swirling air. A few planes have been crashed on takeoff and landing negotiating these convergance zones. Winds N,E,W we are fine South you gotta pay attention.

Ou strip runs N/S and unfortunately alot of the wind comes from the W or SW....so we deal with crosswinds alot. You get used to it I guess. We only have a yearly lease so we don's spend too much in fancy features. Just keep it mowed real short.
