When I first saw the photo I was thinking the worst. Glad they got out without a scratch even.
Seeing the bent propeller and hearing it was not turning due to engine failuer they must have went through something to fold both sides back.

WRAL had video from their news heli and more static shots. Looks like it plowed throw a wooden fence.

Makes sense, that'd do it alright! Oh yeah in the photo you can see the/a fence. Probably the reason why the wing is off the fuse too.
So beteen the Stearman and the Cessna 2 planes with engine failures, never mind the military F-16.
Is mechanical maintenance a closely watched thing with private aircraft, would seem kind of tough or impossible to regulate. I KNOW there are many big rigs that shouldn't be on the road I bet the same is true for private aircraft.
In all due fairness I have no idea what caused this latest round of crashes may have nothing to do with maintenance but still I ponder that question as a general condition.
